Building knowledge through data collection and reporting

A key initiative of Success By 6 Peel has been identifying neighbourhoods within Peel Region. The information being gathered – through Census data, population counts and consultations with Success By 6 Peel members and stakeholders, and individuals from the community – will enable more effective and comprehensive service planning, reporting, and analysis. The availability of this information will also facilitate more effective communications and community knowledge about areas within Peel.

In April 2008, a bulletin was distributed to early child development services and day care porviders that reported on the 2007 Early Development Instrument (EDI) scores across Peel and its area municipalities. 

The Early Development Instrument (EDI) is a tool that helps communities understand how well they are preparing children for Grade 1. Using data from 13,000 valid EDI surveys, the bulletin provided a “community snapshot” of the percentage of children who are developmentally vulnerable compared with the percentage who are developmentally ready, broken down by region. The bulletin also included maps detailing EDI scores across the municipalities in each of the 5 EDI domains that represent the critical components of child development.
