Service Delivery Areas

Service Delivery Areas (SDAs) are geographies intended to support service planning and delivery by providing service providers with data that is relevant to the local geographies they serve. SDAs were drafted based on homogeneous, socioeconomic census charateristics and determined through broad consultation with the service provider community. SDAs reflect service providers’ reports of how and where residents’ actually access services. SDAs are comprised of census dissemination areas (the smallest standard geography for census data) and have varying population thresholds for each municipality. Seventy-one SDAs were created in total; 32 in Mississauga; 30 in Brampton; and 9 in Caledon.

SDA Online Profiles are available on the Peel Data Centre website (PDC). The profiles include Interactive Maps, Downloadable Fact Sheets and Census Data Tables for each SDA, Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon and the Region of Peel. The Census Data Tables contain 2001 and 2006 Census Data.

SDA Online Profiles also present a new level of early-years-specific data. The Early Years data is service-specific – pertaining only to children 0 to 6 and their families – in the very small geographies of SDAs. This resource was  and initiative led by the Success By 6 Peel Evaluation and Accountability Committee, and was previously unavailable in Peel Region.

With the release of the 2011 Census, some of the SDA geographies will be revised and amended to take into account population growth and ensure that established population thresholds are followed.

Frequently Asked Questions about Service Delivery Areas

Case Studies Available for Self-training

Learn more about how to interpret data and utilize Service Delivery Areas (SDAs) for service planning, funding proposals and program delivery. Three case studies are available that provide practical, self-training and greater understanding of these new data tools and resources. Each case study addresses a specific Success By 6 Peel strategic priority.

When completing the case studies, consult the appropriate data tables in the Service Delivery Area (SDA) section of the Peel Data Centre website and the Early Development Instrument (EDI) and Service Delivery Areas (SDA) profiles in the Status of Children in Peel 2009 reference manual.

Comprehensive visual examples can be found on slides 7 to 34 of the Case Study Power Point presentation. The slides illustrate, in detail, the various aspects of navigating profiles and where to locate specific data. Plan to refer to the glossary of terms throughout the training.
